Phragmites australis, commonly known as “Common reed,” is a resilient reed grass that spreads through rhizomes. It boasts sturdy stems carrying flat, elongated, grey-green leaves up to 60cm in length, transitioning to a golden russet hue in the fall. During late summer to mid-autumn, it produces spikelets in fluffy, silky-dark brownish-purple panicles, reaching up to 45cm long.
