Cupressus sempervirens or Italian cypress tree is narrowly conical or columnar to broadly spreading, coniferous tree. Horizontal branches bear dense sprays of grey-green or dark green, glandless leaves, to 1mm long, usually with rounded, abruptly pointed tips (but with free, pointed tips on strong shoots). Spherical to ovoid, prickly brown female cones, 2.5-3.5cm long, each have 8-14 scales. Height to 20m, Spread to 1-6m. Native of E. Mediterranean to Iran.
